What is it?

The Nioslier Coasters Creative Cactus Shaped Design are a set of coasters which the consumer can build into a cactus shape. It arrives with the 6 coasters inside the plastic plant pot with a corkboard disc on the top.

The corkboard disc is there to give the illusions of soil and has a hole which a coaster can be slotted into to allow the consumer to build their fake cactus how they like.

Why is it Good Design?

I believe that this set of coaster are good design for various reasons: the consumers ability make the design unique to them; the aesthetics of the design: the appeal to the target market; the ability to make a functional product into an ornamental product.

This Coaster set is designed to fit into the space where it is being used while being unintrusive and decorative, with its function not being obvious straight away. The main appeal to the consumer will be the aesthetics of the overall design. For many plant lovers this will fit well into their space and the consumer can organise the coaster to suit their tastes best, making this design interactive and almost playful.

The thickness of the coasters make them functional good for being used as coasters and protect the surface they are on from condensation on the glass or from small spills when the glass is placed on them. The material is a good insulating material which provides a good barrier from hot mugs and the surface which they are being used on.

The plant pot section of this design can be used to store small things for example, I often store jewellery in it when I am cooking. The cork base lefts easily to reveal the space below within the plastic pot making this ideal for storing something you want easy access to while the visual aspect of the entire product I find helps to remind me where I have put something.
