Design Challenge completed in 24 hours in February 2024.
What?
A design challenge set by SharkNinja to design a non-kitchen attachment for the Ninja Intellli-Sense Kitchen System. This challenge was completed in a 24 hour time slot.
Design Approach
I started off by research the attachment mechanism and then created a design board of different items that turn to spark inspiration. After sketching out 3 different ideas, I evaluated the concepts based on aesthetics, functionality, ease of use and manufacturability. I further developed the chosen concept to fit with the kitchen system before moving onto a quick CAD prototype.
Research Mechanism
For me getting the attachment mechanism right was paramount and it affect how I would design the concepts as well as what concepts I could design which would be feasible. I conducted my research both online, by looking at photos, videos and product listings, and in person, by going to shops to try and find the product I was design the attachment for.
Design
The design I chose to go for was a yarn winder for hank of yarn to be wound up into a ball for easy knitting. Given more time I would have spent time prototyping and dissecting existing yarn winders to find the optimal angle of the shaft and optimum high for where the wool goes through before reaching the shaft.
